Keying

A keyway is a groove or slot cut into the bore of a pulley that matches the shape and dimensions of a corresponding key on the shaft. The primary purpose of the keyway and key is to prevent slippage or relative motion between the pulley and the shaft. By utilising a keyway, the pulley can transmit torque effectively, maintain alignment, and prevent any slipping or rotational play between the pulley and the shaft, which is crucial for proper functioning in various mechanical systems and power transmission applications.

We offer a comprehensive keyway cutting service. Keyways can be broached up to 25mm wide in metric or 1" wide in imperial sizes with larger widths being wire eroded.
We can also slot keyways into a blind hole.
